Mantella Crochet Cape

mantella crochet cape

My local yarn shop closed down and I looked into my yarn stash to see, if I had some leftovers from that particular store. I found the most soft alpaca yarn – Joruns Alpaca in blue and black. Alpaca is 5 times as warm as wool, so I decided to crochet a poncho with it.

Pattern I found a great free crochet pattern for a mini poncho on Ilaria’s blog, the Mantella Crochet Cape. The pattern is both in Italian and English. It is worked as a rectangle, which is sewn together at the ends. I started out with the blue yarn and finished with the black colored yarn. The original pattern has a button at the front, which I omitted. At the top I added a round with picot stitches, so the cape didn’t look too bare.

Yarn  Jorun Alpaca,  100% alpaca, 100 g/100 m – 109 yards in blue and black. This yarn is discontinued. Yarn weight: Bulky.

Hook 6 mm (J)

Level Very easy pattern for a beginner crocheter.

I love wearing this crochet poncho when it is a little chilly inside my apartment. The alpaca warms you up in no time and this yarn is especially warm and cozy.
