Steph in the City Bag
This owl fabric has been ‘sleeping’ in one of my fabric boxes far too long. I bought the bag fabric this spring, but the colors are speaking to me now with their darker, muted fall tones. Usually I am not an owl person: We just had enough cute owl hats, owl sweaters and other owl stuff the last years… But this fabric with the owls and birds spoke to me.
For the lining I chose some dark blue cotton fabric. Wash the outer fabric and lining before sewing, so the fabric doesn’t shrink, when you wash the bag at a later point.
The pattern is the Steph in the City Bag made by Emmaline. You can download the pattern at her website or buy it in her Etsy shop. The PDF pattern is very well written with several photo tutorials helping you through the process. You have to tape several bag pieces together since this is a PDF pattern, but things work out really fine this way. It is possible to order notions at the designers website.
I love the look with the belt and the pleats! Had to struggle a while to get the pleats look nice, but I managed to get a decent look :-)
I chose the magnetic closure instead of the zipper option, since I have a hate relationship with zippers: Mostly they turn out badly for me – saying that they look too selfmade, when I sew them.
