Apricot String Bag: Free Crochet Pattern
This is a free crochet pattern for a small string bag or produce bag.
Lately I have become tired of buying plastic bags every time I buy something at the supermarket. So I sat down and crocheted a small cotton net bag. It is made with one skein of cotton yarn, so it doesn’t fill up much space.
Materials
Yarn One skein Sandnes Garn, Mandarin Petit in apricot #4007. 100% Egyptian cotton, 50g/178m 1,76 ounces/195 yards.
Hook 3mm US: 2/C
Tapestry Needle
Finished Size Width: 23cm/9 inches Length:28cm/11 inches
As you can see on the photos, the market bag stretches considerably, when you carry items with it.
The pattern is made with simple crochet stitches like chains, trebles, single crochets, double crochets and slip stitches.
Explanation for Puff Stitch: *Yarn over hook, insert hook into stitch and pull a loop through*. Repeat ** 3 times more into same stitch, so there are 9 loops on the hook. Yarn over again and draw the yarn through all the loops on the hook.
Abbreviations used: dc= double crochet sc= single crochet

Really having trouble with the pattern. Round 3 doesn’t seem to work out for me. I tried to fix how I thought it should be but it’s still not right. Going to frog it for now until maybe someone can help.
Hi Anna,
In round 3 you start crocheting the net structure of the bag by making trebles. You make 5 chains, skip 5 stitches and make a treble, – and so on. If you could get more specific about where you get stuck I might be able to help you out.
This is such a pretty string bag !
Thank you for sharing it with me.
Since it is small, I shall crochet several. it is good for taking to the Farmer’s Market. I can put
squash in one bag, tomatoes in another, green beans in yet another one. Those plastic bags arn’t too good for fresh produce…..
Hi Barb,
It is a small bag for a couple of items to carry. Several people have posted here, that they made the bag with success. Happy crocheting :-)

Thanks for the “like” notification on my blog!

You are welcome Laura:-)
I love animal inspired crochet, – though I am not into amigurummi at all.
I’m nearly done with it by now! Pinned it too on Pinterest! Thanks again for this pattern! :)
You are welcome:-)
I am glad that the pattern makes sense and that you are able to reproduce it! Usually I make my patterns with charts/diagrams, but this one is just too long for that.
This is such a pretty bag! I have a ton of reusable ones already, but I simply HAVE to make this one to add to my collection :) Thanks so much for the free pattern!
I have had this desire to make a net bag such as this for a little while and was even searching for one on ravelry last night. I can’t wait to get started (once I have finished one or two other ongoing projects that is – mothers day is 2 days away in the uk!) Thanks!
It may be hard to tell from the photos, but the bag is small. Try to place 3 pieces of fruits next to each other, then you have the dimensions of the bag.
Feel free to contact me, if you have questions about the pattern.
Thanks. Small is good as I then cannot spend too much money! :)
