Halsrør i 3d

Crochet Cowl with Motifs crochet cowl

When I saw the cover of Sidsel Sangild’s new booklet, I knew this cowl would be on my To Do list! It works up pretty fast and it was the first time I tried a pattern with the crab stitch.

The cowl is made of large crochet motifs, which are sewn on top of each other. There are also crab stitches made at the edges of the motifs. One could easily make something similar by popping crochet motifs on top of each other. I am not the great motif crocheter, because I always have to look at the pattern, instead of doing long repetitive rows with similar crochet stitches.

Pattern  Halsrør i 3d from the Danish booklet 3d Hækling by Sidsel Sangild. ISBN  978-87-994292-2-6. In English it is an ebook and in Danish it is a book. If it is sold out in Danish, try to contact your local library for a copy.

Since I chose thinner yarn than the recommended Drops, Nepal, – the cowl fits a little tighter than on the photo in the book.

Yarn The Sanguine Gryphon, Traveller, 100% superwash wool, 114 g-4 ounces/256 m-286 yards. One skein in the color Abu Dhabi.

Do you want to crochet this cowl with a different yarn? Read my guide How to Substitute yarn.

Hook  5 mm  US:   H/8

Finished Size   56 cm/22 inches circumference of each motif.

The yarn comes in a wonderful autumn shade. Unfortunately it is superwashed, so some of the warmth of the yarn is gone, but it still lovely with the alternating brown, autumn hues.
